Homemade Treats

Those that knew Wi-Ski knew how much he loved his food.  He wasn't fussy. He loved everything.

Below we've added a couple of  dog treat recipes that he enjoyed.

Liver Cake

1lb of Liver (chicken or lamb are best)

1lb of Plain Flour

3-6 Eggs

Garlic (optional)

Oil and Water if required.

Method

Put liver in a blender with garlic and eggs and liquidise.  Pour into bowl and add flour and mix to a dropping consistency. Place in a greased baking tray and cook in the oven 180°C, 350°F or Gas Mark 4 for 15 minutes.  Once cooked and cooled cut into small pieces, bag up in small quantities and freeze.

Tuna Treats

2 x 60z can of Tuna in water, DO NOT DRAIN

2 Eggs

1-1½ cups of Flour

Garlic (optional)

Parmesan Cheese

Method

Mash the tuna in water to remove any big lumps.  Put into a food pressure or liquidiser and blend adding a few drops of water if necessary to liquefy completely.

Pour into a bowl and add eggs, flour and garlic.  Mix well.  The mixture should resemble a cake mix.  Spread into a greased tin.  Sprinkle with loads of Parmesan cheese.

Bake in an oven 350°F, 180°C or Gas Mark 4 for 15 minutes.  The edges should pull away from the tin when ready.  Allow to cool and then cut into small pieces.  Bag up in small quantities and then freeze until required.

TIP:  We've always found a pizza cutter to be great for cutting the cakes into tiny cubes.

 Liver Treats

1lb of Lamb or Chicken Livers

1 clove of Garlic (optional)

Method

Bring a small amount of water to the boil in saucepan.  Add liver and garlic (if used).

Bring back to boil and simmer for about 5 minutes until the liver is cooked.

Pre heat oven 150°C, 300° F or Gas Mark 2 (Slow).

Once the liver is cooked drain and place onto Kitchen paper, When cool cut the liver into small pieces.

Put on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for half an hour.  Turn the oven off and leave until cold.  Divide into treat size bags and freeze.  They will keep for a good few days in a container.

*We find these are great for showing and training as they are dry and do not make your hands greasy.  The dogs love them!

TIP Why not try swapping the Liver for Chicken (boneless) to make a tasty change!

Banana Treats

3 cups of Oatmeal

1¼ cup of Flour

2 Eggs

¼ cup of oil

½ cup of Honey

½ cup of Milk

2 mashed Bananas

Method

Blend liquid ingredients, eggs, and mashed bananas and mix well.

Add the Oatmeal and Flour.  Once mixed together the mixture should resemble a cake mixture.

Spread into a well greased baking tray and bake for 25 minutes in a preheated oven  190°C, Gas Mark 5 or 325°F.

TIP: Once cooled cut into small squares.  Keep refrigerated or freeze in small quantities until required.
