We can remember all those years ago when we first pursued the dream. We attended many Sled Dog Working Rallies, spoke to many owners of both Malamutes and Huskies. After all they live with the dogs so what better way to find out what they are like than talking to the owners. When they asked what we were after we'd tell them "A malamute!" how many? "Just the one" You'll never have just one" are you going to work it? "No, we just want one as a pet" What were they on about, You'll never Just have One? We were weren't we? It didn't take us long to realise they were right. We were bitten by the bug of racing. I've lost count of the amount of vehicle changes we've made to accommodate the dogs and our life of living with Sled Dogs. But we wouldn't swap it for anything.
In this country we train
and race the dogs on forest trails. Unlike Alaska and Canada we
have virtually no snow making the need for Sleds usually
impossible. We use three wheeled Rigs. We also do not have the
vast open spaces of land or forests that some countries have in
which to work the dogs to full. Our races and training runs are
normally approximately 3 miles long for Adults and approximately
a mile for Juniors. Both Paul and I work the dogs, Our Children, Natalia and Ryan worked the dogs too but now they pursue other interests. Our dogs have brought home many trophies for working over the last 13 years. We are so very proud of them all. They always give 110%. Click on any image to view! |
